Why does Ubuntu not recognize my USB 802. 11g Wireless Adapter?
By Administrator on Dec 4, 2010 in Portable Ubuntu
A 2WIRE 802.11g mobile Adapter, the one which looks just like a gray Cellphone with antenna. I just set up Ubuntu 9.04 on the Compaq Presario plus it won’t recognize this device. Also this device do not execute on an eMachines when I ran Ubuntu 10.10 from your are living CD, and in simple fact is not recognized by XP either. i realize that the Compaq doe not have a mobile card, but it should nevertheless have the energy to use the USB mobile device. (I am not sure if the eMachines has a mobile card, and I doubt it because I obtained it second hand. Anyway shouldn’t the USB mobile equipment have the energy to execute anyway?
Thanks,
Jacob F

you need to find the appropriate drivers and install them. for ubuntu you’ll need to know the actual chipset of the wireless adapter if you want to try using generic drivers (i.e. if the network adapter has an atheros chipset, you can probably use madwifi-ng drivers)
