Ubuntu Desktop vs Server?
By Administrator on Dec 9, 2010 in Server Edition
what edition of Ubuntu really may i use, desktop computer set up or Server install? What is a difference? may i user the Gnome desktop computer and other desktop computer programs from the server install?
My system will probably be used mostly for any server, but I also wants to get in the location to generate use of it for any desktop computer and media system as well…
As a Server:
-I wants to operate a light server and use joomla and/or drupal with a full large amount of flash as well.
-I wants to generate use of this server as a report and ftp server
-J2EE in the long term might be considered a probability.
As a destop:
-I wants to get in the location to watch motion pictures a 100 % free of to substantially config of codecs
-openoffice of course
-games
-I want easy updates and good package management.
**** I wants to get in the location to operate house windows programs ****
Is it easy to set up win4lin wine,… or VMware…?
Web server shouldn’t have as well substantially traffic… ten concurrent connections would possibly never happen.

Go with the desktop install and just add the server components you require.
Updates are super-easy via Update Manager.
It is very easy to install Wine (straight from Add/Remove Applications) or VMWare (download from their website).

You are asking too much. Either install it as a server, you can still use the desktop graphics, or as a desktop. Your mixed requirements will make it exceptionally slow as a server, and under server load with emulators running as well it will be very slow as a desktop.
