Possible to install Linux on a non-intel Mac?

Trying to install Ubuntu onto a Mac G5 with OSX 10.4.11
Can’t upgrade the OS because it is not Intel based. I think they call it power pc?

I have burned the boot disc but cannot get my computer to recognize it upon restart. Eventually I want to install it onto a partition in my 2nd internal hard disk. It should run off of the disc and give me the option to install but no matter how I try it will not load the boot disc.

Any ideas?

Power pc processor does not work with ubuntu. You need an intel or amd processor to run ubuntu.

    You need the PowerPC port

Yes. There is a PPC (Powerpc) version for most linux distros.
