I want to install ubuntu linux ultimate edition. Will i still be able to play games like gta or nfs?

Need for Speed definitely works. You use WINE to play it (Wine Is Not an Emulator is what they call it but it allows you to play MOST Windows games). Some versions of Grand Theft Auto also work. If they don’t they probably work on spinoff programs called Cedega and Crossover which are proprietary spinoffs of Wine. 95% of all programs work on Linux with Wine. Unfortunately that five per cent are usually the deal-breakers. ID software games were available on Linux for a while for a variety of reasons (not least, frankly, that most games are written on Networks rather than individual computers and Unix works very well for that) but they really can’t afford to port them over any more. The last game I picked up was Return to Wolfenstein (which runs beautifully WITHOUT an emulator).

Well, out of the box, windows programs do not work in Linux, which includes games.
With that said, you can often get games to work by using Wine, which lets you run windows programs inside of Linux. I haven’t tried the new version of GTA yet, but I was able to play San Andreas with no problems in Linux.
Setting up Wine can be a little tricky, so you could buy Crossover Games, which is a program that is based off of Wine, but handles all of the set up. You can browse through their list of games to see what works by default.
