I need to rollback/uninstall an ATI graphics driver on Ubuntu, and can only access safe mode. ?

I accidentally installed the wrong driver for an old ATI card using Envy, and now can’t boot normally without the computer displaying a very, very strange screen and freezing up. I can boot into safe mode, and have access to the root terminal with/without networking… how can i uninstall the driver and just use the open-source driver included on the card itself? (I literally just plugged the card in, booted it up, and it worked fine).
Agreed… I’ve never been a huget ATI fan, but when the on-board vga port on this thing died, i resorted to an old ati card (PCI) i had lying around. The computer is old, and more of a project than an important workstation.
This is all good and well… but now my computer turns on, the power light flashes, and then goes off. the computer SOUNDS like its booting like normal, yet i can’t get it to output anything, whether through the old card, a different one, the onboard vga port… nothing. Any help?

By the way, ATI is the worst for linux support. Envy broke mine too, that’s how I found that guide. I STILL can’t get Google earth to run on my stupid ATI card.
