How to set up a wired connection in ubuntu

Okay i’ve tried ubuntu 2 times with wubi and can’t seem to set up a wired connection I would love to use it fully but unfortunately without being able to get my connection working its just not appealing to me.

Connect a cable between PC and router. Install Ubuntu. It should detect the network connection just fine. Is the ethernet connector built into your PC or is it on something external like USB or a PC Card? If the latter, you’ll need to find Ubuntu drivers for it.

If your internet requires a username and password you need to open a terminal window (under accessories in program menu) and type in “pppoeconf” and hit enter.(may be “sudo pppoe conf” I cant remember its been awhile) Follow the prompts from there. (use defaults except for username and pass which you have to put in manually) good luck. If you do not have the wired connection start when the PC starts then you will need to open a terminal again and type “pon dsl-provider” to trigger the NIC and “poff dsl-provider” to disable.
