    If you could give us a little more info about the release you are using we could help you more. My guess it is either a config problem or a driver problem. I would use iwconfig in terminal and see if it list a wireless card if you see one then it is more then likely a config problem. If none is listed then it is a driver problem and you will have to find a working driver for your wireless chip set. You can also check the under the system > administration > Restricted Driver Manager is you are running a later release of ubuntu. If all else fails head to the ubuntu user forums.
