How do I install Ubuntu if I don’t have an operating system?
By Administrator on Sep 9, 2010 in Ubuntu Support
I have an good old set of laptop or computer parts, and instead of use a duplicate of Windows to set up Ubuntu, i’d like to just start with Ubuntu. My query is: if you burn up the CD installer, are you able to load the CD straight onto a blank PC with no OS? If not, how can I acquire an choice method?

Yes. That’s kind of the point of burning it to a CD.
If your machine doesn’t boot from the CD, change the boot priority in your BIOS to “CD/DVD”. It shouldn’t matter though, since you have no OS.
Of course, if you want to actually install Ubuntu, you will need a hard drive. I couldn’t tell whether you had one or not. Even without a hard drive, you can still boot from the live cd, though.

Download the ISO image and use an ISO burning program to burn it to a CD.
Use the CD to boot the machine and Install to your hard drive or run from the Cd. Both work fine…
